Osteopath near Sittard-Geleen

Complaints don’t always start in one clear spot. Sometimes they’re the result of an injury or overuse. In other cases they develop gradually, or keep coming back without an obvious reason why. If you’re looking for an osteopath in Sittard-Geleen, my approach isn’t just about reducing symptoms.

I look at how the body functions as a whole, and which factors may be contributing to a complaint arising or persisting. At Medisch Centrum Paterskerk in Geleen, I take the time to carefully understand your story and examine what’s going on — not just the complaint itself, but also the context in which it developed.

What is an osteopath?

An osteopath is a healthcare professional who specializes in treating complaints and conditions through manual therapy. Osteopathy focuses on restoring the body’s natural balance and mobility, looking at the whole body — not just the spot where the pain shows up — and also considering the underlying cause of a complaint. Osteopaths use their hands to examine and treat joints, muscles, connective tissue and organs, based on the idea that the body functions as a whole, so a problem in one area can affect other parts of the body.

How I look at the body

The human body is constantly in motion. Muscles, joints, nerves, blood vessels and organs all work closely together. When mobility changes somewhere in that system, it can affect how you feel or move. That’s why, during a consultation, I don’t just examine the spot where you feel a complaint — I look more broadly: how different structures move together, where there may be restrictions, and which factors could be playing a role. Osteopathy isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach. Two people with the same complaint may need a completely different explanation and treatment. That makes the work precise and personal at the same time.

No two complaints are the same, so treatment always starts with listening to your story. When you visit me for the first time, we begin with a thorough conversation. It’s important to me to understand not just your complaint, but also the context in which it developed — so we discuss your medical history, daily activities, work, sport and any previous treatment. Based on this, I carry out a physical examination, looking at the mobility of different structures in the body and how they relate to one another. We then discuss my findings together. Alongside treatment, I also focus on explanation and advice — it’s important to me that you understand what I’m examining, which factors may be involved, and what you can do yourself to support your health and resilience.

My approach in practice

A first appointment starts with a conversation. I want to understand your complaint, but also what your daily life looks like. Work, sport, previous injuries or prolonged strain can all affect how the body functions. This is followed by a physical examination in which I look at mobility and how different parts of the body relate to one another. I always discuss what I find with you — it’s important to me that you understand what I’m examining and why. Based on this, we discuss together whether osteopathy is a suitable approach for your situation. Sometimes treatment is the right step, sometimes explanation and advice are enough, and sometimes it’s wiser to involve another healthcare discipline. That judgment call is part of good care.

Why I chose osteopathy

While working as a physiotherapist, I noticed that some complaints call for a broader approach. That’s what led me to pursue further study in osteopathy. What appeals to me about osteopathy is that it looks at how everything in the body is connected — not just the spot where someone feels a complaint, but also the factors that may be contributing to it arising or persisting. Every person and every complaint is different, which is why I think it’s important to listen carefully, examine thoroughly, and work out together which approach best fits your situation.

Training and background

My interest in the human body and movement led me to study Physiotherapy at Zuyd University of Applied Sciences in Heerlen, starting in 2014. After graduating in 2018, I found that I wanted to examine and treat complaints from a broader perspective, so I began training in Osteopathy at the International Academy of Osteopathy in Antwerp.

I completed this training in 2023, earning the title Master of Science in Osteopathy. Because I want to further specialize in treating babies and children, I’m currently completing additional training in paediatric osteopathy at the same academy. Alongside my own practice locations in Beek, Geleen and Hoensbroek, I also work at an osteopathy practice in Maastricht. By continuing to learn and gain experience, I keep developing my knowledge and skills.

What complaints do people visit my practice for?

People come to the practice in Geleen with a wide range of concerns. Common ones include back and neck pain, sports-related complaints, headaches, jaw complaints or dizziness. I also see people who have had complaints for a long time, or where the cause isn’t immediately clear. I also treat babies, children and adults with a variety of concerns. The starting point is always the same: first understand what’s going on, then examine which factors may be involved, and then decide together on the right approach.

Whatever your concern, the approach stays the same: first understand what’s going on, then examine which factors may play a role, and then discuss what a suitable next step looks like.
